Wrestling is open to all shapes and sizes as there are 14 Varsity weights ranging from 106 to 285. Increase your speed, strength, and endurance by becoming part of Independence wrestling.

Independence High School Wrestling competes in the WaMaC Conference. The WaMaC Conference consists of 13 teams: Benton Community, Clear Creek-Amana, Center Point-Urbana, Independence, Vinton-Shellsburg, Williamsburg, South Tama County, Dyersville Beckman, Maquoketa, Marion, Mount Vernon, Solon, and West Delaware.

Independence has won the Conference Tournament in: 1976, 1989, 1996, 1999, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015 and Conference Duals in: 1974, 1976, 1982, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2020.

Independence competes in Class 2A at State. Independence has placed in the top 10 at state in 1950, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2019. Winning the State Championship in 1996.

Independence has also participated in State Team Duals in 1997 (1st), 2002 (Q), 2005 (Q), 2008 (Q), 2009 (Q), 2014 (3rd), 2015 (5th), 2016 (5th), 2019 (6th), 2020 (4th).

Independence Mustangs place 5th at the 2015 State Dual Tournament!

Fourth-ranked Independence defeated Vinton-Shellsburg (62-9) and Mount Vernon (36-21) to advance to the 2015 State Dual Team Tournament. Independence place 5th in the 2015 State Team Dual Tournament!

Independence takes third place in the 2014 Iowa State Duals!

Ninth-ranked Independence earned a trip to the State Team Duals tournament by beating No. 5 West Delaware, 32-30, in the finals of the 2014 Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 2A regional dual at West Delaware. The Mustang’s earned their first State Duals appearance since 2009.
