Welcome to Independence Wrestling
Independence High School Wrestling competes in the Wamac Conference. The Wamac Conference consists of 16 teams split into East and West Divisions. Benton, Clear Creek, CPU, Independence, Marion, Vinton, Waterloo Columbus, and Williamsburg make up the West. Anamosa, Dewitt, Dyserville, Beckman, Maquoketa, Mt. Vernon, Solon, West Delaware, and Western Dubuque make up the East.
2012 Battle of Waterloo
The 3rd Battle of Waterloo is in the books, with West Delaware winning the Championship Bracket Saturday night at Young Arena. Independence went 5-1 in the battle.
Independence lost a close one against Iowa City West, 30-39, in the first round and went on to win its final five duals of the tournament, including a 3-0 mark Saturday to win Bracket 5, beating Woodbury Central of Moville, 40-33, in the championship match.
Meet the Wrestlers Night
It’s wrestling season and on behalf of the Indee Mat Club, we are excited to host our 6th annual, “Meet the Wrestlers Night,” Wednesday, November 21st at Heartland Acres Event Center. This evening of fun is a chance for parents, students, and community members to meet the 2012-2013 wrestlers. You will also hear the coaching staff talk about the upcoming season, listen to Olympic gold medalist and current Iowa State University head wrestling coach, Kevin Jackson speak, enjoy a catered meal by McElory’s, and have the chance to bid on several silent and live auction items as a fundraiser to benefit our program.

High School Wrestling Weight Class Change
The National High School Wrestling Association changed the high school wrestling weight classes prior to the 2011-2012 season. The new weight classes are: 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285.
